Multiplication Skills for Grade 3
In third grade, students should fluently recall single-digit multiplication facts (times tables 1-9) and understand the connection between multiplication and division.
They should also understand that multiplication can be done in any order (the commutative property) and use this knowledge to solve problems efficiently.
In addition to practicing various multiplication methods—like arrays, repeated addition, and mental math—students should learn to solve multiplication word problems, such as finding the total number of objects in equal groups or calculating the area of a rectangle.
