PSLE 2024 FAQs

Q1. What is PSLE?

PSLE, or the Primary School Leaving Examination, is a national exam in Singapore taken by Primary 6 students as they finish primary school. It assesses proficiency in core subjects like English, Math, Science, and Mother Tongue. The PSLE results hold significant weight in secondary school placement and future academic endeavors.

Q2. What to expect in the PSLE?

The PSLE consists of three components:

  • Oral Examination (language subjects only)
  • Listening Comprehension Examination (language subjects only)
  • Written Examination

The written exams cover at least four subjects at standard or foundation level:

  • English
  • Math
  • Science
  • Mother Tongue

Non-examiable subjects such as Art, Music, Physical Education, and Social Studies are part of the primary school curriculum but not assessed in the PSLE.

Q3. When are the PSLE 2024 exams held?

The PSLE Oral exams are usually conducted in August while the Listening Comprehension exams will be held in September. The PSLE Written exams are held annually from September to October.

The exam dates are usually released by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in March. Dates for PSLE 2024 are given in the tables above.

Q4. What are PSLE grades?

In the MOE PSLE scoring system, as of the 2021 PSLE, each subject is measured against curriculum objectives using 8 Achievement Levels (ALs) as the scoring bands.

  • For Standard level subjects, there are 8 Achievement Levels (ALs). Students with similar performance will be grouped into the same AL, ranging from AL1 (highest) to AL8 (lowest).
  • For Foundation level subjects, the grades span from AL A to AL C, with ALA as the highest and ALC as the lowest. These grades will be mapped to AL 6 to AL 8 of the standard level subjects for Secondary 1 placement.

Q7. Where can I obtain my past PSLE results?
